January 18, 2022
Dear STGRSD Families,
Today, Tuesday, January 18, 2022, Powder Mill School was closed due a broken water pipe in the 5th and 6th grade wing. What was originally thought to be roof leakage turned out to be a burst pipe on the second floor that also resulted in flooding on the first floor below.
While we address the damage, the current 5th and 6th grade classrooms must remain unoccupied. Mrs. Carrier has worked closely staff and SRS Principal Turmel to create a plan to relocate teaching spaces so children can return to school and resume learning as soon as possible.
School will be in session tomorrow for ALL students, preK-12, including Powder Mill School, with the following adjustments:
-
Grade 5 classrooms will be relocated within Powder Mill School
-
Grade 6 classrooms will be relocated to Southwick Regional School at least through Friday, January 21, 2022.
Students in sixth grade will follow their normal schedule but will be dropped off and picked up at Southwick Regional School (7-12).
Mrs. Carrier has communicated to families in a separate email with specific details.
We are asking for families and staff to please be prepared to be flexible as we make adjustments, assess impact of the leak, and complete necessary restoration.
Thank you to all of the families and staff members for your patience and understanding during this situation. We apologize for the inconvenience we know it is causing. Please continue watch your email for important communications from Powder Mill School and STGRSD as that will be our primary method of communication.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher or the school.
Sincerely,
Southwick-Tolland-Granville
Regional School District
