Dear STGRSD Families,
On Tuesday, Powder Mill School was closed due a burst pipe which resulted in significant water damage in the 5th and 6th grade wing of the school. Since that time, 5th grade classrooms have been moved to alternative spaces within Powder Mill School and 6th grade classrooms have been relocated to Southwick Regional School (7-12).
During the past few days, our facilities team has worked as quickly as possible to remove standing water and assess damage. Our restoration contractor has already begun clearing out damaged material and debris. Once all of the debris is removed and the assessment is completed, contractors will restore the damaged spaces to their original condition. We are at the beginning of a very lengthy process.
During the restoration process, the 5th and 6th grade wing will remain closed and the affected classrooms will stay in their current spaces. This means that the grade 6 classrooms will remain relocated at Southwick Regional School (7-12) through at least February 27, 2022.
Powder Mill Principal Carrier and SRS Principal Turmel continue to work together to make the relocation as smooth as possible with a focus on student safety and student learning. Students in 6th grade will continue to follow the Powder Mill schedule with drop-off and pick-up at Southwick Regional School (7-12). This added step in the Powder Mill bus run may result in delays for Woodland School bus transportation for some students.
We are working hard to minimize disruptions. Your continued patience is appreciated as we identify opportunities for improvement and make adjustments as needed. We will provide updates throughout this process and notify families if timelines change.
Thank you, again, to our entire STGRSD community for your support, patience and understanding during this situation. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or the school if you have questions.
Sincerely,
Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School District
